Rockville Nanny Wins $10K, Plans to Buy Condo
A Rockville nanny who won $10,000 in a Maryland Lottery scratch-off game plans to save up to buy a condo.

ROCKVILLE, MD — When a Rockville resident won a $10,000 Lottery scratch-off prize, it was only fitting that it happened on a Sunday afternoon when the Baltimore Ravens beat the Jacksonville Jaguars. A $5 Ravens scratch-off delivered the big win.
The lucky player purchased the ticket on Sept. 25 at the Shell Food Mart at 7430 Riggs Road in Adelphi. After leaving the Prince George’s County retailer, she put the ticket in her purse and nearly forgot about it until an hour later, when she scratched it off while visiting a friend. The 59-year-old discovered several matching numbers and five “Win” symbols, each showing $500 prizes.
“I just said, ‘What?’” recalled the winner, who works as a nanny. “I saw $500 and $500 and $500. I was shocked. It almost gave me a headache.”

She wasn’t entirely sure how much money she had won, but her friend examined the ticket and delivered the good news: $10,000.
“I was very happy,” she told Maryland Lottery officials. “It was very unexpected.”

The Montgomery County resident hid the ticket in various places to keep it safe until she could claim her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
“It was in the laundry, in the drawer – I kept checking to make sure it was there,” she said. The happy player plans to save the prize and use it to help fund the purchase of a condo.
