Rockville Police Department To Offer Free Training Courses

The Rockville City Police Department is offering free courses to residents who think they have what it takes to be a police officer.

ROCKVILLE, MD — The Rockville City Police Department is offering free courses to Montgomery County residents who want to learn more about the law enforcement agency.

Those interested in taking the free eight- to 10-week course through the Rockville Community Police Academy must be 18 or older. Students will learn about the department, receive hands-on training, and earn a graduation certificate, officials said. Classes will be offered in March, April, and May. Email Cpl. Ken Matney at kmatney@rockvillemd.gov to register and learn more.

The police department is also teaching a free course about code enforcement, the K-9 unit, and forensic science. Participants will also get a tour of the station.

Classes will be held in the Azalea Room of the Rockville Senior Center Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon (March 20-April 24). The senior center is located at 1150 Carnation Drive. Starting on Tuesday, Feb. 26, residents can register for course #8185 at www.rockvillemd.gov/registration.
