Rockville Safeway Thief's Image Caught on Camera: Police

Montgomery County Police hope you recognize this man, accused of taking 60 packs of cigarettes from a Rockville Safeway store at knifepoint.

Rockville, MD — A man who allegedly threatened a Rockville Safeway store worker with a knife while he swiped 60 packs of smokes is being sought by Montgomery County Police.

Detectives on Wednesday released surveillance photographs of the assault suspect and asked for the public’s help to identify the thief.

Police say that about 10: 45 p.m. on May 28, the unidentified man entered the Safeway store at 1800 Rockville Pike. He went behind the counter, pried open a cigarette case, and took an estimated 60 packs of cigarettes.

A Safeway employee was threatened by the thief with a knife, which the suspect allegedly swung at the worker. Then the man fled from the store on a tan bicycle toward the Twinbrook Metro Station.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the theft is asked to call Montgomery County Police at 240-773-6084.
