Rockville Teen Killed In Crash, 2 Others Hurt: State Police

A Rockville driver was killed when his car plunged into a pond; two passengers were injured. Police said speeding may have been at fault.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A Rockville driver died Wednesday night when his car plunged into a pond on the Eastern Shore and two passengers were injured, authorities said.

Maryland State Police said in a news release that speeding may have caused the Wicomico County crash that killed Matthew Garcia, 18. Police believe he was the driver of the Honda Civic involved in the crash.

Garcia was flown by Maryland State Police to an area trauma center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Two passengers in the Honda, who were both injured, are identified as Andy Fon Koh, 18, of Takoma Park, and Eyuael Zewdie, 18, of Washington, D.C.

Authorities said Koh was flown by helicopter to a shock trauma center for treatment. Zewdie was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

About 8:41 p.m. Wednesday, officers from the Fruitland Police Department responded to South Division Street at Coulbourn Mill for a single-vehicle crash. Investigators said the Honda driven by Garcia was traveling on South Division Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign, tried to steer through a turn, and struck a guardrail, coming to rest in Coulbourn Mill Pond.
