Scholarship Honors Officer Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver

The Olney Chamber of Commerce is accepting donations for the Police Officer Noah Leotta Act Responsibly Scholarship fund.

A scholarship fund has been established by the Olney Chamber of Commerce to commemorate the life and passion of Montgomery County Police Officer Noah Leotta, who was killed when he was hit by a suspected drunk driver.

Leotta died Dec. 10, a week after he was hit by a car while taking part in a holiday drunk-driving task force. Suspect Luis Gustavo Reluzco, 47, of Olney, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The Police Officer Noah Leotta “Act Responsibly Scholarship” is open to students pursuing careers in public safety or law enforcement. Students are eligible for one to four-year scholarships, in annual amounts beginning at $1,000.

Applicants will be evaluated on academic performance, leadership, civic and volunteer activities. Each applicant will be asked to document their belief in, and commitment to, the ideals embodied by Officer Leotta.
