School Board President, VP Reelected For Another Year

Brenda Wolff and Karla Silvestre will serve another term as president and vice president, respectively, of the MOCO Board of Education.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Brenda Wolff and Karla Silvestre will serve another year as the president and vice president of the Montgomery County Board of Education. They were elected by their fellow board members at a meeting on Thursday.

Both are Silver Spring residents, and both were first elected to the Board on Nov. 6, 2018.

“I am honored to be chosen by my peers to serve as president of the Board, as we continue to navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the school system and our larger community,” said Wolff in a statement.

Wolff is also a member of the Board's Fiscal Management Committee, is the Board’s representative to the Maryland Association of Boards of Education’s (MABE) Federal Relations Network Committee and is the vice chair of MABE's Legislative Committee.

Silvestre is the chair of the Board’s Strategic Planning Committee, a member of the Committee on Special Populations and the Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Committee, and is the Board of Education’s representative to the Maryland Association of Boards of Education’s Resolutions Committee.

The Board also voted on their newest member at the meeting Thursday. Scott Joftus was chosen to fill the District Three seat, that was vacated when Board member Pat O'Neill died this year.
