Skid Loader Traps Driver in Sewer Trench
A Bobcat driver excavating a sewer line in the Charles River Labs building in Rockville had to be rescued Saturday.
ROCKVILLE, MD — A special rescue team was called out Saturday to rescue a construction worker who drove his skid loader into a trench and was trapped underneath the heavy equipment.
The workplace accident was reported about noon at Charles River Laboratories, 2 Taft Court, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services. An operator was using a Bobcat to excavate a sewer line inside the commercial building when he mistakenly drove into the trench, said Pete Piringer, spokesman for the fire department.
Rescuers first secured the skid loader, then shored up the sides of the trench before they were able to free the worker. Piringer said that the operator suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
