Some of 66 Seized Dogs Ready for Adoption

Montgomery County officials have released a photo and video clips of a few dogs now ready for forever homes; three dogs were euthanized.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Some of the 66 dogs rescued from a Rockville area home last week are now ready for adoption, with more to be placed in coming days, even as three dogs were euthanized.

Montgomery County’s Animal Services Division has released a photo and three short video clips that show a few of the dogs seized on Jan. 1.

Katherine Zenzano, a spokeswoman for the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center, told Montgomery Community Media all the dogs are in the legal custody of the shelter and some of the animals are ready for adoption at the shelter in Derwood facility.

Montgomery County authorities should decide by the middle of the week what charges to file in the case of 66 dogs that were seized on New Year’s Day from a Rockville home.

A search warrant was executed Jan. 1 at a residence on Glen Mill Road; the removal of the animals took much of the night. The investigation began Dec. 31 when animal services officers went to the home about a dog bite report.

According to a news release, three of dogs were in extreme pain from medical ailments and had to be euthanized. Officers said the seized dogs were in various medical and behavioral conditions.

Because the case is still under investigation, staffers are not releasing information about the homeowner or the environment in which the animals were kept.

No charges have been filed to date. Last week, animal control officials said they hoped a decision on charges would be made by mid-week.
