A Walter Johnson High School student was seriously hurt when a Jeep hit him as he was about to board his school bus in Rockville, cops say.
ROCKVILLE, MD — A Walter Johnson High School senior was seriously injured when a vehicle struck him as he was about to board his school bus in Rockville Friday morning, according to officials.
It happened around 7:18 a.m. at the intersection of Montrose Road and Bargate Court. The 17-year-old boy, whose identity has not been released, was struck by a 2018 Jeep Renegade while crossing the street to board the bus, according to Montgomery County police and school officials.
Capt. Thomas Jordan, a police spokesman, tells Patch the bus' flashing red lights were either on or in the process of coming on when the Jeep struck the teen.

"There was a clearly marked crosswalk," Jordan said in a interview with Patch, but added that the investigation is ongoing.

The Jeep remained on the scene.
Jennifer Baker, the principal of Walter Johnson High School, sent a letter to families about the incident.
"A 12th grade student was struck by a car while crossing the street to board the school bus. Emergency services were called immediately and the student was transported to a local hospital," Baker wrote. "Our thoughts are with the student, their family and friends."
Baker says counseling staff and psychologists will be available throughout the day to talk with students.
The pedestrian-involved collision comes less than 24 hours after a fourth grade student at Bradley Hills Elementary School was fatally struck by her school bus in Bethesda.
