Suspect in Stabbing of Pregnant Teen Identified

The victim is reportedly in critical condition after undergoing an emergency C-section.

ROCKVILLE, MD — An 18-year-old Aspen Hill man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault after stabbing a pregnant 19-year-old woman Wednesday in Kensington, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

The young woman, who is in critical condition at a local hospital, underwent an emergency Caesarean section to save her baby, according to media reports. The baby girl was born three months premature and was placed in intensive care.

Dakota Brothers, of the 13400 block of Lydia Street, appeared in court Thursday in Rockville, where a judge set his bond at $5 million, according to media reports.

The police said that Brothers and the young woman are in a relationship, but they cannot confirm whether Brothers is the father of her baby.

Radio station WTOP reported Thursday that the victim identified Brothers as the father, and that Brothers told the police that he's not ready to be a father.

Brothers met the young woman Wednesday afternoon on a wooded path behind a home at 3015 Upton Drive in Kensington. He stabbed her multiple times and fled the scene, the police said.

The police responded to the report of the stabbing at 3:19 p.m. The young woman was conscious and stabilized at the scene and taken to a local hospital. She identified Brothers as her attacker, the police said.

About an hour later, plainclothes officers spotted Brothers near his home on Lydia Street. As they approached him, he tried to flee, but they apprehended him near Palmira Lane and Dauphine Street, the police said in a statement.
