Most English Language Learners need accommodations like extended time to pass state-mandated tests. We have used WiDA at my school for two years, and there are some concerns about students exiting ELL programs before they are ready. If they are "mainstreamed" without any support they struggle a great deal, especially in high school content classes where teachers can have 30 students. We need to make sure that the tests are actually appropriate for the students. It is my understanding that the oral assessments for low level students do not elicit enough language to identify the students' level.
