Victim In Fatal Pedestrian Collision Identified As Rockville Woman

Montgomery County Police identified a 35-year-old Rockville woman as the victim in the Oct. 28 fatal collision on Rockville Pike.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County Police identified 35-year-old Sonia Maribel Mejia Cruz of Rockville as the pedestrian killed after being struck by a car last month on Rockville Pike, according to a police release.

Officers from the Rockville City and Montgomery County police departments responded around 8:58 p.m., on Oct. 28, to the 1000 block of Rockville Pike for the report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

A preliminary investigation determined that Cruz was crossing Rockville Pike from east to west when she was hit by a northbound 2004 Toyota Camry, according to police. The driver remained on the scene after the collision.

Cruz was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, but she succumbed to those injuries on Nov. 11.
