Weather Decision For Montgomery Schools On Monday Feb 5 2018

BREAKING: Public schools in Montgomery County will operate on a modified schedule on Monday, Feb. 5.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Public schools in Montgomery County will open late on Monday, Feb. 5. Officials cited icy roads in making the announcement Monday morning.

Montgomery County Public Schools will open two hours late on Feb. 5, according to the announcement. School buses will operate on a two-hour delay.

School officials said they would reevaluate the decision by 7 a.m. to determine if a closure was necessary.

Morning prekindergarten, morning half-day programs, field trips, morning half-day Head Start programs and other activities beginning at 10:50 a.m. or earlier are canceled on Monday, Feb. 5, Montgomery County Public Schools officials said.

Day care programs in school buildings may open as scheduled, and administrative offices will be open on time, according to Montgomery County Public Schools officials.

Montgomery County Recreation programs and classes starting before 9:30 a.m. are canceled on Monday, Feb. 5. Tiny tot classes that begin before noon are canceled as well, officials said.

Senior centers will open at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, while senior transportation and senior nutrition programs are canceled, according to Montgomery County Recreation.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement overnight alerting drivers that roads may appear wet while in reality they are icy. People should give themselves extra time to get to their destinations and exercise caution on the roads, weather officials advised.
