When I was in Egypt I stayed at the Forte Grande Hotel on the outskirts of Cairo. The hotel looked out at the Pyramids which are very close to the city of Cairo. I had always assumed that they were way out in the desert, but actually they are not.
Anyway, I needed to get some money, so I went to a local bank. They use Pounds in Egypt, Egyptian pounds.
I went into the bank and said "I need to change some traveller's checks." The bank person said "Forty Grand?" (I suppose he assumed that I was staying at the Forte Grande as it was close.) and I said - being British with a weird sense of humor - "No 200 pounds should be enough." Apparently they don't have much of a sense of humor in Egypt, or perhaps, like most places they just don't understand my particular kind of humor?
Ask me about my adventure when I was abducted while on a camel ride around the pyramids sometime.
