80-Year-Old Swimmer Sets Records At Senior Olympics
Sunrise of Severna Park resident wins six medals and set four records at the Maryland Senior Olympics.
From The City of Severna Park: Nana Whalen, an 80-year-old swimmer living at Sunrise of Severna Park, MD, recently won six medals and set four records at the Maryland Senior Olympics! This is an inspiring story of how we can maintain our physical fitness and reach new goals at every stage of life.
A group of Sunrise residents and team members watched Nana compete at Germantown Indoor Swim Center on Saturday, Sept. 15. In the 80+ age division (men and women included), Nana won gold and set records in the following events:
- 550-yard freestyle
- 200-yard freestyle
- 200-yard backstroke
- 100-yard backstroke
Nana won silver medals, meanwhile, in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard IM.
