Hurricane Relief Drive To Help Families With Babies

A hurricane relief drive will be held Oct. 8 in Severna Park to help families with babies.

From Walk the Walk Foundation: Walk the Walk Foundation is teaming up with Gvozden Pediatrics in Severna Park, Maryland, to host a relief drive benefitting families with infants and toddlers who are affected by hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The event, which is set for Sunday, October 8, provides an opportunity for our local community to help meet the needs of the storms’ most vulnerable victims. WTWF and Gvozden Pediatrics are coordinating with nonprofits currently serving in Texas and Florida to ensure that needed items are requested and received. Items will be collected from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at 1110 Benfield Road in Severna Park (St. John’s Office Park). A complete list of suggested donations is available here.

Walk the Walk Foundation, which recently absorbed Food Link’s Emergency Baby Pantry Program for low-income families, has been in contact with Houston-area baby pantries and is reaching out to organizations in Florida that have been wiped out of their supplies. WTWF and Gvozden Pediatrics desire to help restock their shelves and provide families with much-needed items.

“Clean diapers are a necessity, and our foundation exists to meet needs of the youngest members in our community,” said Kim Mitchell, co-founder of Walk the Walk Foundation. “Families across the economic spectrum in Texas and Florida are in need right now, but many people don’t realize that food stamps do not cover diapers and wipes, leaving low-income families in even more desperate situations.”

“We want families with babies and toddlers to have access to the things that allow their growing children to maintain their health,” said Cathy Gvozden, a certified nurse practitioner at the pediatric office. “We want them to be certain that they can tend to their babies’ nutritional, physical and mental wellbeing during uncertain times.”

As a member of the National Diaper Bank, WTWF has experience working with other nonprofits striving to support families within local communities. Joining relief efforts created by Harvey and Irma is just another way that both the Foundation and Gvozden Pediatrics can serve and impact our community at large.
