Men's Rugby Season Heats Up

Severn River Men's Rugby Team Gets Ready for the Spring Season.

The Severn River Rugby Football Club’s (SRRFC) Men’s Team has started it’s spring season practice sessions. The recent weather conditions have made regular practices difficult, but veteran players are confident they will be ready for their first match. It’s been a difficult few re-building years, but the team is poised to regain it’s prominence as a top contender in league play.

The team competes in the Capital Geographic Union Division II rugby league and faces opponents from Wilmington, DE to Richmond, VA. The six teams that make up the league are required to play each other twice during the fall and spring seasons. Top teams compete in regional and national championship matches that are held in May and June.

The SRRFC Men’s team has already earned a playoff berth for the 2014-2015 season and is hoping to secure home-field-advantage when it travels to play the Richmond Lions on Saturday, March 14.

The Severn River Rugby Football club was established in 1978 and actively recruits players of all sizes and athletic abilities. The club fields a Men’s and Women’s team and works closely with the Anne Arundel County Youth Rugby’s U19 program. The Men’s team also fields a “B side” team that caters to new and recreational players (and “old boys” - those over 35).

Practice sessions are held on Tuesday/Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9pm at the American Legion Post 175 field in Severna Park. For more information, visit the club’s website at www.SevernRiverRugby.org . New players are always welcomed at any time during the year.
