Millersville Man in Critical Condition after Brightview Drive Crash

The crash on New Year's Day occurred less than a mile from the driver's home.

A 23-year-old Millersville man was in critical condition Wednesday after he was thrown from his vehicle, which crashed into a tree, less than a mile from his home, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Officers were called to Brightview Drive, west of Sunnyview Drive, at approximately 7:05 a.m. for a reported crash, police said.

Joseph Garrick Henehan, 23, of the 600 block of Stone Wheel Court West, had been driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer headed west on Brightview Drive when he failed to negotiate a turn, police said.

The vehicle left the road, rolled over and Henehan was ejected, according to the report. The SUV hit a tree, where it came to rest, police said.

Henehan was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Preliminary investigation indicated that excessive speed and alcohol contributed to the crash, police said.
