Millersville Crematory Gets Tentative Approval

After numerous and lengthy public hearings and testimony by Shipley's Choice residents who oppose the crematory, the owners get the tentative go-ahead to move forward.

 

The Anne Arundel County Board of Appeals gave tentative approval Thursday night on the proposed Millersville crematory, according to a story on MDGazette.com.

The proposed site for the operation, to be located on Headquarters Drive off of Veterans Highway, brought strong opposition from the neighboring residents of Shipley’s Choice.

The debate started in May at an held at the Earleigh Heights Fire Hall, which drew a large crowd of Shipley's residents and continued throughout the summer with and heated debate before the County Council concerning county zoning laws that govern funeral homes.

According to MDGazette.com, the appeals board unanimously voted to uphold the county’s decision to issue building and plumbing permits to Maryland Cremation Services, owned by Dorota Marshall.

The final decision won't come for weeks and an emissions permit is yet to be granted by the Maryland Department of Environment.
