Proposed Crematory Hearing Tonight
The County Council will hear from the public on Bill 53-11 that would possibly disqualify a business from operating in Millersville.

A County Council Hearing pertaining to Bill 53-11 concerning the proposed crematory to operate on Headquarters Drive in Millersville is tonight (Aug. 1) at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at the Arundel Center, 44 Calvert St., Annapolis.
Originally scheduled for July 18, the hearing was postponed last month due to a load of zoning bills coming before the County Council. The community of Shipley's Choice, located in Millersville, behind where the proposed crematory would operate, has expressed deep opposition to the proposed location of the business, Maryland Crematory LLC .
An initial meeting in May brought hundreds of residents to the Earleigh Heights Fire Hall to question the owners of the crematory and also representatives of the Maryland Department of Environment on air quality concerns and current zoning.

Bill 53-11 would disqualify the crematorium from operating out of the Headquarters Drive location—a commercially zoned area—where some work has already begun on the site. The bill, sponsored by Ladd, will specifically define which zones crematories and funeral establishments can be located.
The Board of Appeals is still scheduled to consider challenges to the plumbing and building permits already granted to the company for remodeling work at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24 also at the Arundel Center.
