After last nights cancellation due to lightning and thunder, the SP Varsity Football team hosted the Southern Bulldogs Friday at 4:00pm. It only took a few minutes after a SP Defensive stand to see the Falcon Offense create a little Thunder and Lightning of their own. #12 Taylor Kitzmiller, #24 Kieran Jenkins and #7 Tyler Haskell took it straight to the Bulldogs, with a balanced offensive scheme that saw a quick score by the Falcons to go up 7-0.
The Bulldogs came into SP this week after lambasting Fairmont Heights 56-0 on opening day. The Delaware Wing-T Offense wasn't going to help them this afternoon. Falcon defenders were flying around the ball and caused several key turnovers. With those turnovers, the Falcons went into halftime, 18-7.
Opening 2nd half kickoff saw a very long impressive drive by the Falcon Offense from their own 9 yard line and into the Bulldog end-zone. Not to be outplayed, the next Offensive series for the Bulldogs #25 Dejean Neal took it 80 yards through the Falcon defense. But for every jab the Bulldogs threw, the Falcons countered and punched back. After a late Bulldog TD, Southern opted for a 2-point conversion. Running left, #55 Luke King LB for the Falcons tracked down the pitch and stopped the conversion with the tackle at the Bulldog 5 yard line. That play seemed to take the steam out of the Bulldogs as SP put up a 40 yard beautiful pass by Kitzmiller and another rushing TD by #24 Jenkins to seal the game.
The 1-1 SP Falcons take on the 1-1 Chesapeake Cougars at Chesapeake!
Come on out and root on the Falcons!
