No Injuries Reported From 2-Alarm Kitchen Fire At Copper Canyon
Firefighters continued to chase hot spots as they wrapped up their response to a two-alarm kitchen fire at a Silver Spring restaurant.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service personnel were still on the scene of a two alarm kitchen fire at the Copper Canyon restaurant in Silver Spring, according to a 10:48 a.m. post on the Twitter account of Pete Piringer, the department's public information officer.
Battalion Chief Jason Blake said on Twitter that the fire had spread to the duct work above the kitchen. Even though he described it as an "intensive fire," Blake said that there were no injuries and that firefighters were still chasing hot spots on all levels of the building.
Units responded around 8:40 a.m., for the report of a fire at the restaurant, which is located at 900 Ellsworth Drive near Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, according Piringer. The following units responded to the scene: PE701, PE719, PE702, E754, PE707, AT719, PT716, RS741B, A701, BC701, and BC702.

At around 9:09 a.m., a second alarm was called around, bringing the following units responded to the scene: E750, PE720, AT724, M712, CT740 and EMS704, according to Piringer. In total, 85 fire personnel were brought to the scene to help fight the blaze.
All northbound lanes of Georgia Avenue/MD-97 remained closed at Wayne Avenue due to the fire response at Copper Canyon, according to Piringer. Drivers should expect significant delays and seek alternate routes.

The cause of the fire and extent of damage has not been released.
