Police say two men have been charged with the 2013 murder of an Aspen Hill resident. The third suspect is in jail for an unrelated homicide.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Two men have been charged with the 2013 slaying of a 34-year-old man after a scuffle in Aspen Hill, police said. A third male suspect, who is in prison for an unrelated homicide, has also been identified.

Trevon Derick Davis, 28, of Hyattsville, and Bryan Donte Byrd, 28, of Northeast Washington, have been charged with first-degree murder for the Nov. 6, 2013 homicide of Alexander Benson Buie, officials said. Montgomery County Police have identified Darvel Bellamy, 28, of Hagerstown, as the third suspect in this case. Bellamy is currently incarcerated at the Maryland Correctional Institution for an unrelated homicide that happened in 2014.

Around 10:50 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2013, three armed men forced their way inside a halfway house on Grenoble Drive in Aspen Hill. When officers arrived, they found Buie suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Buie was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

According to authorities, there were witnesses to the shooting, including a roommate who helped investigators create a black-and-white composite sketch for one suspect. But, for months, no arrests were made in the case.

Nearly a year later, Buie's mother, Kay Billups, told WJLA that detectives no longer returned her phones calls or emails.

"My question to Montgomery County Police is, 'Why haven't these men been arrested and brought to justice?'" Billups said in 2014.

On March 6, 2019, Byrd was arrested in Washington, D.C., and was later released after posting a a $150,000 bond, officials said.

Two weeks later, Davis was arrested in Washington, D.C. He remains incarcerated in the District pending extradition to Montgomery County, according to police.

Authorities have only released a photo of Byrd, which can be found below.
