SILVER SPRING, MD — Four people were injured in a collision that sparked a car fire in Aspen Hill Tuesday night. Montgomery County Police said two patients were taken to the hospital with critical injuries and the others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 11:40 p.m., a 2018 Honda CRV traveling northbound on Georgia Avenue rear-ended a 2018 Honda Accord and a 1999 Ford Windstar that were waiting at a red light on Bel Pre Road. Police said that the collision caused the Ford Windstar to catch fire.

An officer conducting a traffic stop nearby heard the collision and saw the car on fire, according to officials. Police said the officer used a fire extinguisher from his patrol car to put out the flames and removed the adult female driver from the vehicle. She was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
