MCPS teacher on leave released on bond after trespassing incident at Silver Spring school (bethesdamagazine.com) — Parents at Glen Haven Elementary in Silver Spring learned a former teacher on leave was arrested after allegedly trespassing in the building, prompting a brief lockdown and assault charges. A judge released her on unsecured bond with supervision, while MCPS and prosecutors cited both mental health concerns and the need to protect school safety.    

2. Pedestrian dies in hit-and-run collision on Colesville Road in Silver Spring (bethesdamagazine.com) — A woman was fatally struck in a hit-and-run Friday afternoon on Colesville Road between Four Corners and the Burnt Mills shopping center in Silver Spring, and police are still searching for the driver. First responders found her in critical condition around 1:15 p.m., and drivers are being urged to avoid the 10500 block as the investigation continues.    

3. Retired Silver Spring Woman Wins $500K After Following Lottery Advice (thebaynet.com) — A retired Silver Spring woman turned a routine scratch-off stop at the Giant on New Hampshire Avenue into a $500,000 lottery win. She’d long considered the store her lucky spot, and this Gifts of Green ticket confirmed it, while also earning the Silver Spring retailer a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.    

4. Lenore Cohen (washingtonjewishweek.com) — Longtime religious educator Lenore Cohen has died at her home in Riderwood Senior Living in Silver Spring, where she was remembered as a devoted family matriarch and a pillar of the Jewish community. She spent many years shaping students’ lives at Temple Emanuel in Kensington and is survived by her sister Dorothy, four children, and their families, who invite memorial donations in her honor.    

5. Athlete of the Week: Silver Spring native Josh Hart's journey comes full circle (wjla.com) — Silver Spring native Josh Hart just helped deliver New York’s first NBA title in 53 years, capping a journey that began on local courts and at Sidwell Friends. His hustle, rebounding and leadership proved crucial in the Finals, and former coaches say his selfless, high-motor style still reflects his D.C.-area roots.
