• Car Flips Over After Crash Near Wheaton High School: MCFRS (patch.com) — A weekend single-car crash in Silver Spring left a vehicle flipped in front of Wheaton High School, trapping the driver inside. Police and fire crews responded around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, and officials say the driver sustained only minor injuries and declined a hospital trip while investigators review what led to the collision.
   

• Silver Spring house fire caused by discarded cigarette, $120K in damage (fox5dc.com) — An early-morning house fire on Valleywood Drive in Silver Spring caused about $120,000 in damage and displaced five residents, who were awakened by working smoke alarms. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue say a discarded cigarette started the blaze outside the split-level home before flames spread to the second floor and attic, underscoring the importance of proper cigarette disposal and functioning alarms.
   

• Officer runs through grocery store to arrest man in attempted Laurel carjacking, video shows (wusa9.com) — A man from Silver Spring has been arrested after Laurel police say he robbed a woman, stole her keys, and tried to carjack her before fleeing through an Aldi grocery store, where officers chased him on foot. Body-camera and drone footage captured the pursuit, and the 34-year-old now faces attempted carjacking, theft, resisting arrest, and related charges.
