• 1 Springbrook HS staffer had outsized number of extra paid duties, audit finds (bethesdamagazine.com) — Springbrook High School in Silver Spring is under scrutiny after an internal MCPS audit found one resource teacher held far more paid extracurricular assignments than any peer, raising process and oversight concerns. The review, which preceded Principal Stephanie Valentine's leave and retirement, recommends redistributing duties, properly posting stipend roles, and tightening documentation as new principal Aaron Shin takes over.
   

• One thing about "elite talent" Baba Oladotun" stands out most to one of Maryland basketball's new veterans (newsbreak.com) — A rising Maryland basketball freshman, Baba Oladotun, honed his game at James Hubert Blake High School in Silver Spring before reclassifying and missing much of his senior season. Now teammates say his eagerness to learn, not just his scoring, could speed his adjustment to the college level and make his local journey a point of pride for Silver Spring fans.
   

• Color, calling and commitment open the 2026 Annual Council (adventist.org) — Silver Spring is hosting more than 440 Seventh-day Adventist leaders from around the world this week as the church's 2026 Annual Council gets underway at the General Conference auditorium. Delegates are spending eight days in town reviewing global mission progress, hearing devotionals, and handling church business under the theme "Called for Mission."
