SILVER SPRING, MD — A man was killed and a passenger was injured Saturday morning when a car overturned after striking a utility pole in Montgomery County, bringing down power lines and closing part of Randolph Road, police said.
Montgomery County police and fire rescue personnel responded to Randolph Road and Bluhill Road around 4:58 a.m. for a single-vehicle crash involving a 1990 Honda Civic.
Officers found the Honda overturned with two adult men inside.
The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to save his life, police said.
The passenger was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said the driver lost control of the Honda for reasons that remain unknown and struck a utility pole.
The collision brought down power lines, forcing authorities to close Randolph Road in both directions at Bluhill Road. Police initially advised motorists to seek alternate routes.
The department's Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
Police have not released the driver's identity pending notification of his family.
Authorities said they will release additional information as the investigation continues.
