LANGLEY PARK, MD — A man was arrested and charged in connection with the deadly shooting of a 13-year-old girl from Silver Spring on Tuesday, police said.
Prince George's County Police identified the teenager in a Wednesday release as Any Davalos. A second unidentified teen girl tied to the shooting remains hospitalized for critical injuries.
Marcos Melendez-Umanzor, a 20-year-old from Hyattsville, was named as the accused gunman in the case.
Police said the deadly shooting was reported shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday, with officers responding to the 8100 block of 15th Avenue in the Langley Park area.
At the scene, officials found the two girls suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Davalos was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Melendez-Umanzor knew the two girls and that the shooting occurred following an argument, according to the release.
Authorities said Melendez-Umanzor was pinned as a suspect "through various investigative techniques."
Authorities arrested the Hyattsville man late Tuesday, and he remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Melendez-Umanzor is currently charged with a range of offenses that include first- and second-degree murder, as well as first- and second-degree attempted murder, among others.
Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact authorities at (301) 516-2512. The case number is listed as: 26-0058632.
