Armed Driver Orders Boy Into Car In Silver Spring: Police

Police are investigating a report of a suspicious situation involving an 8-year-old boy who encountered an armed driver in Silver Spring.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Police are investigating a report of a suspicious situation involving an 8-year-old boy who encountered an armed driver Friday in Silver Spring.

Montgomery County Police said they were called to Lyttonsville and Grubb roads around 6:23 p.m. The 8-year-old victim told officers that he was approached by a light gray, four-door sedan shortly after he got off the school bus at about 4 p.m.

The driver of the sedan reportedly told the boy to get into the vehicle and grabbed his shirt. The child, who was able to break free from the driver's grip, said that the suspect also flashed a gun, which was tucked inside his waistband. Following the encounter, the boy ran home, according to authorities.

Police said the male suspect, who was reportedly wearing black jeans and a gray jacket during the incident, is about 40 years old. They also said they've increased patrols in the area.
