Muhizi reportedly fled the scene before police arrived.
At about 8:15 p.m., Muhizi allegedly tried to steal another vehicle. This time, authorities said, Muhizi tried to carjack a 51-year-old in a parking lot at 2400 Research Blvd.
Muhizi approached the man, who was repairing his vehicle in the parking lot, and demanded the car keys. Authorities say a struggle between the victim and Muhizi ensued, and a round was fired from the gun. No one was injured in the fight.
The victim grabbed the gun from Muhizi and asked a woman exiting a building to call 9-1-1, according to police. Officers later arrived on the scene and arrested the 18-year-old Silver Spring man. He is currently being held without bond.
