Armed Robbery At Ethiopian Restaurant In Silver Spring Investigated

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police detectives released an additional surveillance video on Monday that they say shows the suspects and a vehicle involved in the Dec. 21, 2023 armed robbery at the Shalla Ethiopian Restaurant in Silver Spring.

This is the second video investigators have released in connection with this case. Detectives are asking the public's help in identifying the people in both videos.

Officers responded around 12:20 a.m., on Dec. 21, for the report of a robbery at the restaurant located in the 8000 block of Sligo Avenue.

Through their investigation, detectives determined that three men wearing masks — two armed with firearms and another carrying a red bag — entered the restaurant and demanded personal property from the victims. The suspects then left the scene of the crime, driving off toward Washington, D.C.

Police released the following description of the suspects:

  • The first suspect was a heavy-set male, who was wearing a black BMW hooded sweatshirt with black sweatpants. He was carrying a shotgun.
  • Police described the second suspect as a male, wearing all-black clothing, and black jacket and carrying a long-rifle firearm.
  • The third suspect was described a man, wearing a black jacket, white sweatshirt, black pants and a white face mask.
