Coronavirus Latest In Montgomery County: 1,883 Cases, 54 Deaths

Montgomery County has 1,883 confirmed coronavirus cases and 54 deaths as of April 14.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County reported 127 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the local total to 1,883, according to Maryland health officials. Fifty-four residents have died from the disease.

Statewide, confirmed cases ticked up by 536 on Tuesday, to 9,472, while the number of people who have died of coronavirus rose by 40, bringing the state's death toll to 302.

The numbers are expected to grow as more people get tested, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019 and has since infected more than 1,935,600 people and killed more than 120,900 around the world, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.

Maryland reported its first three coronavirus cases on March 5. As of Tuesday morning, 44,261 people have tested negative for the disease, 2,122 have been hospitalized, and 607 have been released from isolation.

Prince George's County continues to have the highest number of cases in the state. As of Tuesday, the county has 2,356 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the latest tally. Seventy-two people have died from the disease.

Montgomery County comes in second.

The county with the fewest number of confirmed cases is Garrett. The total: four infections and zero deaths.

In an effort to better understand where the virus hits hardest, the state has begun posting COVID-19 cases by ZIP code on its coronavirus page.

"We are being as proactive as anyone in the country on this so that Marylanders can better understand the spread of this deadly virus," Hogan said.

Most of Montgomery County's cases come from Silver Spring (20904), according to the state. The total stands at 154.
