UPDATE: 25 Injuries Reported in Crash of Two 15-Passenger Vans

Montgomery County emergency crews have taken 23 juveniles to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries from crash on Columbia Pike.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A total of 25 patients -- 23 of them youths age 14 or younger -- were taken to area hospitals after an accident on Columbia Pike near Musgrove Road, authorities said.

The collision involved two 15-person passenger vans, with one rear-ending the other. The numerous injuries are described as non-life-threatening , says Pete Piringer, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services.

About 9:40, Piringer said via Twitter that a total of 25 patients were taken to hospitals. Of those, 23 were juveniles between 12 and 14 years old, along with two adults. All injuries were not serious, he said.

Numerous EMS units are on the scene. A medical ambulance bus is en route to the scene, Piringer said.

All lanes of southbound Route 29/Columbia Pike are now open, authorities said.
