The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Giron and found signs of child abuse.
According to WTOP, Melendez “pulled the victim’s hair and repeatedly scratched and dug into the victim’s temple” after the boy’s mother briefly left the table while they were dining at a Silver Spring restaurant.
Melendez then “squeezed a lemon in the child’s face and put lemon juice on his finger, then rubbed his finger into the child’s eye,” according to the report.
Melendez is scheduled for sentencing on June 13. He faces a maximum of 65 years in prison.
