Dixon Street Construction by Sonia Bunch

The Dixon street construction project, located in Downtown Silver Spring, is a colossal undertaking extending on Dixon street between Bonifant and Ripley. The project, which has created interruptions in traffic and inconvenience those trying to park as well as walk to the Silver Spring Metro, is due to be completed in about eight months.
The area under construction was previously a large parking lot, where commuters headed to DC left their cars during the long work day. With the ongoing construction, commuters currently have fewer places to park and a longer walk to the Metro.
However, the Dixon street project promises to improve things for area residents by creating a direct path between Ripley and Bonifant, therefore creating a shorter path to the Metro and more sidewalk space. Tony, a RideOn bus driver with Metro, and Manuel, a construction worker on the job are hopeful that the Dixon Street extension will be a win-win. However, Takoma Park resident William Bray is concerned that Metro will raise their rates in order to help pay for the construction. What do you think?
