SILVER SPRING, MD — While a "dumpster fire" typically describes something that is out of control, that was not the case for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service early Tuesday morning. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a dumpster fire in Silver Spring before it spread to a nearby apartment building.

Fire units responded around 12:30 a.m., to the 8600 Apartments at 8600 16th St. in Silver Spring for the report of a fire in a dumpster located under an overhanging section of the building.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading further. They then cleared the smoke from the section of the building where the dumpster was located, according to MCFRS.

No injuries were reported and no one was displaced by the fire. Investigators determined that the fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to the structure.
