The film follows the survival of a lone woman and her baby daughter as she strives to survive the world in utter silence.
“To be able to enter into the WOCF Film Lab Summer Challenge with my new film ANNEXATION is such an honor,” said Cunningham, “I am using this opportunity to tell stories from a Black woman's perspective, especially in an effort to advocate for the advancement of women, sharing things from our narrative and to celebrate Women’s Equality Day, which is August 26.” Cunningham felt that it would be groundbreaking to have a darker skin woman and baby as actresses, as it's not something often seen in horror films. Cunningham is thankful that directors like Jordan Peele are also changing the narrative.
Following the results from the WOCF Summer Film Challenge, Cunningham will speak about her journey while being a woman in film, while hosting an inclusive art exhibit and releasing her new film.
