Erin Edwards has opened a GoFundMe site to assist her mother Chris and neighbor Melinda Collis - both were displaced and left homeless by the fire - both are without insurance.

Photo # 3 captures Chris hugging her German beloved German Shepherd just after “Heidi” received mouth to mouth resuscitation and oxygen. Melinda is in photo #4 -her back to the camera - patting Heidi’s head.

Fire Victims Support Fund by Erin Edwards - GoFundMe

On September 15, 2015 a massive fire ripped through my mother’s apartment complex in the Leisure World Senior community of Silver Spring MD leaving several residents homeless. My mother and her dear friend/neighbor (Melinda Collis) were two of the units hit hardest. My mom’s beloved German Shepard was rescued unconscious and miraculously resuscitated by an amazing MCFD firefighter. We are beyond grateful and blessed that there were no casualties and that all are safe.

Neither my mother nor her friend had insurance. Both lost their homes and nearly all of their possessions. I’m working to help them navigate all charitable and assistance avenues but they have a long uncertain road ahead. This fund will be used to help them secure housing and start to rebuild their lives. Thank you for your generosity, love and support.
