Firefighters Evacuate Dozens from Wayne Manchester Towers
A fire on the top floor of the eight-story apartment building was quickly extinguished, authorities say.
More than 100 Montgomery County firefighters helped evacuate dozens of residents from the eight-story Wayne Manchester Towers apartment building in Silver Spring Monday morning.
A fire on the top floor was doused after initial reports of a small explosion which broke some windows, according to Pete Piringer, fire department spokesman, via Twitter.
The building is located at 25 E. Wayne Ave.

Piringer says the cause of fire is under investigation. The fire was confined one apartment, with damage from heat, smoke and water in other parts of the structure.
East Wayne Avenue was closed because of the fire equipment between Flower Avenue and Sligo Creek Parkway, but reopened about 8:10 a.m.
