Foodie Festivus: Tree Lighting & Street Festival
Join us for Downtown Silver Spring's tree lighting and street festival, this year themed Foodie Festivus.

Karl Unnasch, an internationally acclaimed public and architectural artist, will create a 35’ holiday tree comprised of recycled glassware and welded food service items including spatula snowflakes, plate and saucer ornaments, takeout containers, utensil tinsel - “utinsel” - and an impressive star topper constructed from blue glass bottles, for Downtown Silver Spring’s fourth annual holiday public art installation, this year themed Foodie Festivus.
Inspired by the musical Oliver, the holiday art installation celebrates the role food plays in our holiday season, becoming the means by which we celebrate a time of thanks, peace, joy and love. The installation will be unveiled on Saturday, November 14, 2015 kicking off Foodie Festivus, lasting from Nov. 14 through January 2nd, and will remain on display during this seven-week celebration on the Fountain Plaza. Foodie Festivus will also feature seven weeks of Downtown Silver Spring holiday-themed special events, musical performances and food and drink specials from restaurants including AG Kitchen, Copper Canyon Grill, Nando’s Peri Peri, and many others.
Additionally, Foodie Festivus aims to give back to the local community by partnering with local non-profit organization Manna Food Center, whose mission it is to end hunger in Montgomery County through food distribution, education and advocacy. Visitors can donate to Manna Food Center at Downtown Silver Spring throughout the Foodie Festivus celebration, and can view the Manna Can-Struction display throughout the season.
