SILVER SPRING, MD — One of the top pediatric health care systems is moving to Inventa Towers — the former Discovery Inc. headquarters in Silver Spring.

Children's National Health System recently signed a 15-year lease to occupy more than 140,000-square feet across four floors of the building. This is Inventa Towers' first tenant at One Discovery Place.

The real estate investment and development firm — Foulger-Pratt — made the announcement in a press release on May 1.

"We are thrilled to welcome Children's National to Inventa Towers," said Michael Abrams managing director at Foulger-Pratt. "We couldn't have asked for a better tenant to kick-off our leasing efforts. We've had tremendous interest from the healthcare sector and other high-quality prospects looking for a dynamic work environment."

According to the release, District-based Children's National is expected to make the move in 2020. The move to Silver Spring is part of a larger effort by the health system to consolidate administrative teams that are currently spread across multiple offices throughout the D.C. metro area.

"As we pursue a more collaborative work environment for our staff, we sought a space that was centrally located offered a variety of amenities. Inventa Towers delivers on all of our needs and more," said Charles Weinstein, executive vice president and chief real estate and facilities Officer, Children's National. "We look forward to phasing in our staff starting next year."

Foulger-Pratt says that Inventa Towers will begin renovations this summer. Updates include a state-of-the-area fitness center, a tech-enabled conference center on the ground floor, and a courtyard and corner plaza with plenty of seating options.

"With all of its current and future amenities, access to abundant public transportation options, proximity to its main campus on Michigan Avenue, NW and its new Children's National Research and Innovation Campus at the site of the former Walter Reed Army Health System — Inventa Towers will allow the pediatric health system to thrive for the long term, right in the heart of downtown Silver Spring," said Matthew Coursen, who represented the health system in this deal.
