The Highwood Theatre Announces Three Summer Student Productions as Part of their 2015-2016 season
The Highwood Theatre is thrilled to announce its Summer Season of productions to be performed by members of the Students' Theatre. The first show will be The Real Inspector Hound by Tom Stoppard, followed by Musical of Musicals by Joanne Bogart and Eric Rockwell. The final production will be Sunday in the Park with George by Stephen Sondheim.
The Real Inspector Hound, a comedic farce following two theatre critics and their accidental involvement in a murder mystery, will be produced by students in the summer Acting Intensive program with performances taking place July 8th and 9th. Musical of Musicals is a lighthearted parody of classic musicals including works by Rogers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Kander and Ebb, Andrew Lloyd Webber and more. This production will be performed by the Musical Theatre Intensive students and will take place July 22nd and 23rd. Sunday in the Park with George, Sondheim's most luscious musical score, follows Georges Seurat and his journey to paint his masterpiece “Sunday in the Park on the Island of La Grande Jatte." It will be the final production of Highwood's 2015-2016 season and will be performed by the After School Production Company. Performances will run July 29th - July 31st

The Musical Theatre Intensive and the Acting Intensive, open to students in 7th 12th grade, are two week long programs where students produce a one act play or musical in a condensed, intensive rehearsal period. While working with a professional director and participating in masterclasses led by theatre experts, students will be challenged to improve their acting, singing and dance skills and to grow as a performer. The Musical Theatre Intensive is currently full, but there are still spots available in the Acting Intensive. The deadline to register for the Acting Intensive is July 15th. The After School Summer Musical is made up of students ages 4th 12th grade and meets for a six week period for three or four rehearsals a week. Students of all experience levels work with a professional director and learn about how a full length musical is produced. A few spots remain for the Summer Musical, and the registration deadline is June 21st.
The Acting Intensive camp begins June 27th and ends July 9th (with no camp on July 4th), and the Summer Musical will run June 22nd July 31st. The summer productions are part of Highwood’s 2015-2016 Mainstage Season and are the season’s final productions by its Students’ Theatre division, which is dedicated to producing highquality theatre productions with casts and production teams comprised of talented student actors.

The Highwood Theatre in Silver Spring is located at 914 Silver Spring Avenue, Suite 102, Silver Spring, MD 20904. Street parking is available near the venue, and there is a county garage less than one block away. Parking is free on weekends. Arriving by metro? From the Silver Spring metro station (Red Line), head Northeast on Colesville Road toward Wayne Avenue. Turn right onto Wayne Avenue, Right onto Georgia Avenue, and left onto Silver Spring Avenue. The Highwood Theatre will be on your right. This route takes about ten minutes.
