Homeless Man Arrested For Silver Spring Rape: Police

BREAKING: A homeless man was arrested and charged with rape, assault and robbery of a 32-year-old female in Silver Spring, police said.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A homeless man was arrested and charged with rape, assault and robbery of a 32-year-old female in Silver Spring, Montgomery County Police detectives announced Thursday.

Antonio Devon Kamara, 33, of an unconfirmed address, is accused of committing these offenses Wednesday afternoon in the 13800 block of Castle Boulevard. The woman told officers that she had been walking on the sidewalk in the area of Castle Boulevard and was talking on her cell phone when Kamara approached her from behind and attempted to talk to her, police said. The woman did not respond, and Kamara allegedly grabbed her from behind, took her cell phone and pushed the victim into a wooded area off of Castle Boulevard.

The woman began screaming for help and Kamara allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not remain quiet. Kamara then raped the victim, stole money from the her purse and fled on foot.

The victim provided the suspect’s description to officers. An officer then observed an individual, later identified as Kamara, who matched the suspect’s description walking in that area of Castle Boulevard. The officer attempted to stop Kamara but he fled on foot as the officer approached, police said. Officers pursued Kamara on foot into a wooded area where he was taken into custody. The victim positively identified Kamara as the person who had sexually assaulted her, police said.

Kamara was transported to the Central Processing Unit and was charged with first-degree rape, second-degree rape, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, robbery, theft less than $100.00, and kidnapping. Kamara was ordered to be held without bond.
