Leisure World of Maryland:
How’s that $17,400 contract workin’ 4 U?
Drones, Atonement and Old and Empty News
The Leisure World (of Maryland) Board of Directors spends resident funds in extraordinary ways in their many multi-million dollar resident funded budget. One of the more comical examples is the $17,400.00 contract with a “Feather Zone”, a Maryland goose chasing company. They have dogs who get their fun and exercise by harassing geese. Although rarely if ever seen by residents, one of their dog handlers drives up, releases the dog to romp on the Leisure World MONEY PIT (aka “golf course”). Ah, but the geese are smarter than the dog, its handler and those spending resident money. They fly to several other nearby Leisure World bodies of water located at the Overlook Condos and Fairways South. The geese scouts sound the all clear goose signal, and the flocks return to the golf course. (see photos).
In seen in the recently published article (see photos), newly appointed Technology Advisory Committee Chairman “Dr. Jim” writes about the concept of using drones in Leisure World for various purposes. “JustUs”, the Leisure World resident advocacy organization, suggested he add chasing geese to the list, which would save $17,4000 in wasted resident funds. In his gracious reply Jim said: “Will have to admit that this particular application would never have occurred to me!”

Leisure World management officials have been made aware that although the Gazette weekly paper (owned by Jeff Bebos/Washington Post) is no longer in business, their ugly eye sore metal vendor boxes still reside in several locations throughout Leisure World. (see photo above).
When a “JustUs” email is sent to those responsible for resident money expenditures, which includes management hired hands, the community at large is copied.

Within this reply from a witty and concerned resident, alternate suggestions re: geese disbursement, enhanced golf course play, visitation for atonement by certain Leisure World Board members, the recent fire in Montgomery Mutual Coop, and newspaper vending machines in the community:
“This is in response to the very thoughtful and intelligent suggestion regarding the use of a drone aircraft to discourage geese from our beloved LW Golf Course. If the community were willing to spend a little extra money, and I would point out given its wasteful projection of needless FEP expenditures this should be no problem, the Executive Committee should recommend that the BOD add an additional 50K to the “goose budget”. This could buy us 1 Hellfire ASM so the drone would be armed. The geese targeted would be dispersed and you would have absolute assurance they would never return. In addition, the very small crater created would become an new, small hazard on the golf course thus providing an additional challenge for enhanced play.
Since I see you have access to a large readership, you might want to pass along the following as a Community Service Notification. Tuesday evening will mark the beginning of Yom Kippur. As such, the Leisure World streets should be very crowded with several members of the BOD running from unit to unit seeking to be forgiven for transgressions committed against the LW Community during the past year.
At the same time there could well be an additional very positive benefit. Some unexpected relief for the LW Residents displaced by the fire this week may be forthcoming. Very observant members of the aforementioned group will most certainly be making Donations and Volunteering to help those displaced by the fire. For it is well known that individuals can atone for their sins and transgressions by such acts. Important Holy Days and Holidays can provide an opportunity for ALL to reflect on behavior and subtle obligations. In this case, let’s hope that an example will be shown from the Top to inspire us all. Maybe even the next LW News will report on the generosity so demonstrated - IF THE FREEDOM OF RESIDENTS TO REPORT IS RESTORED AS BEFORE.
I saw an email you sent to Mr. Flannery pointing out that a Gazette vending machine was still near the LW Administration Building. There is also a Sentinel vending machine that has as its recent issue showing being from 2014. Are any of the paper vending machines there being kept current? Do any PAID PEOPLE see any of these things? It sure is a good thing we have a person like you providing such service for the well being of us all. On behalf of the SILENT MAJORITY OF THE LW COMMUNITY - THANK YOU I am sure LW Management will handle this in the same manner we have come to expect as demonstrated by previous matters brought to their attention.”
ANOTHER RESIDENT WRITES:
“I think it would be more productive and cost efficient if the board got off their duffs and chased the geese, at least they would accomplish something, rather than just wasting our time and money, and, if they are occupied chasing the geese they would not have the time nor energy to do harm to Leisure World, the environment and residents. The exercise would be outdoors, and would increase oxygen to their addled brains - - all beneficial. What do you think?” -30-
