Local Health Insurance Brokers Partner with CCI Health & Wellness to Strengthen Health Safety Net
Greater Washington Association of Health Underwriters Educating Consumers and Raising Funds
Rockville, MD -- The Greater Washington Association of Health Underwriters (GWAHU) is partnering with CCI Health & Wellness Services to expand Montgomery County residents' access to health care. The new partnership is part of the National Association of Health Underwriters Education Foundation's "Operation Engage" campaign in support of community health clinics and other safety net healthcare facilities across the country.
“The health care reform debate is being waged in Washington, but in the meantime, clinics like CCI Health & Wellness Services are serving a critical role in serving our most vulnerable neighbors,” noted Colette De Castro, Incoming GWAHU President. “At the same time, community clinics reduce overall health care costs by easing pressure on emergency room clinics and providing critical preventive care.”

Nationally, community health clinics like CCI Health & Wellness Services serve as the primary medical home and “family doctors” in 9,800 communities for more than 25 million Americans – the majority of whom are below the federal poverty line. A substantial portion of their funding comes from private donations.

“The NAHU Education Foundation's Operation Engage effort is aimed at bringing attention to the vital role community health clinics play in delivering medical care and is indicative of NAHU members' commitment to improve the nation's health care system,” said Janet Trautwein, the NAHU Education Foundation's president.
