Police said that before the collision, Pedrozoa was leaving a gas station in the 10600 block of Connecticut Avenue, preparing to turn northbound onto Connecticut Avenue.

At the same time, 64-year-old Mairi Nicola Morrison of Garrett Park was walking southbound on the sidewalk and had entered the driveway apron when Pedrozoa struck her, police said.

She was taken to an area hospital, where she later died, police said.

According to authorities, Pedrozo was wearing earbuds and listening to music at the time of the collision. Detectives also determined that after the initial impact, the van continued moving forward and then reversed while Morrison was still underneath the vehicle.

Pedrozo turned himself in to police on Wednesday and was released on bond.
