Man Robs Silver Spring Restaurant, Assaults Employees: Police

A man was arrested for an armed robbery of the Golden China restaurant, where he pepper sprayed two employees and hit one with his gun.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A 37-year-old man has been arrested for the July 21 armed robbery of the Golden China restaurant in Silver Spring, police said.

Bryan O'Donald Ray, of an unconfirmed address, is charged with one count of armed robbery, two counts of first-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree assault.

At about 11 p.m. July 21, officers responded to the restaurant at 12719 Old Columbia Pike for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation reveals Ray entered the restaurant and displayed a handgun in his right hand and pepper spray in his left hand, police said.

Ray allegedly pepper sprayed a male employee working behind the counter, pointed his gun at a female employee behind the counter and demanded money from the cash register.

The female employee grabbed the gun Ray was holding and began to struggle with him, police said. Ray struck the female on the head with his gun and then pepper sprayed her, police said. After assaulting the female, Ray opened the cash register, stole money and fled from the restaurant, police said.

Detectives released a surveillance video of Ray and received a tip identifying him as the suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Ray and arrested him on Aug. 7, police said.

Ray is currently being held in Washington, D.C., for similar offenses that occurred in that jurisdiction.
