Man Shot Over Nike Shoes In Silver Spring: Reports
Police are investigating a possible gang-related shooting where a man was targeted for wearing Nike Cortez sneakers in Silver Spring.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Police are investigating a possible gang-related shooting where a man was targeted for wearing Nike Cortez sneakers that occurred Friday night in Long Branch Local Park in Silver Spring, according to reports.
Bethesda Magazine reports that a man was waiting outside the Long Branch Community Center at about 9 p.m. when he was approached by two other men.
The men asked the victim about his Nike Cortez running shoes and questioned whether he was a part of the Cortez gang, Lieutenant Rick Pelicano, a spokesman for the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, told Bethesda Magazine.

When the victim said he wasn't a part of the gang, the men stole his shoes. The victim's friend then arrived to pick him up and a fight broke out between the men.
One of the suspects then shot the man whose shoes were stolen before the two suspects fled on foot, police said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting remains under investigation.
