MD Emancipation Day Weekend

Park historic sites across Montgomery County hosting free family friendly events Nov 6-8 to celebrate the abolishment of slavery in MD

Each November, Montgomery Parks celebrates Maryland Emancipation Day which commemorates the adoption of the 1864 Maryland Constitution abolishing slavery in the State of Maryland on November 1st. This year the celebration will include:

  • Guided hikes on the Underground Railroad Trails
  • Living history demonstrations and reenactments
  • Archaeology site excavations
  • Tours of a former slave plantation and 19th century log cabins
  • Live music, crafts, games and food.
